Earth Blox has joined the UK Business & Biodiversity Forum (UKBBF), the business-led network that helps UK companies understand their relationship with nature and build biodiversity into their operations and strategy.

Active since 2020, the UKBBF brings together corporates, consultancies, financial institutions and biodiversity specialists to help members prepare for emerging regulation, manage nature-related risks and find opportunities to support nature recovery.

"Understanding how a business depends on and affects nature is fast becoming part of how it plans, invests and reports. Through the UKBBF, we hope to share what we have learnt from working with banks, multinational companies and consultancies to apply nature and climate data at scale, and to help members turn that understanding into action," said Dr Genevieve Patenaude, Founder and Executive Director, Earth Blox.

Expectations on how businesses understand and manage their relationship with nature are rising. The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) released its Business and Biodiversity Assessment earlier this year, which sets out how nature loss affects strategy, supply chains and long-term value. Many organisations are now working out how to reflect their relationship with nature in their strategy and communicate their actions through disclosures aligned with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

As a member, Earth Blox looks forward to taking part in the Forum's work and sharing our experience from working across high-impact sectors such as agriculture, forestry, fashion, energy, extractives and financial institutions. Recent projects with Lloyds Banking Group range from analysing nature risks and opportunities for 5.1 million hectares of UK farmland to a report that estimates Nature Value at Risk at the asset-level for a paper manufacturer, a data centre operator and a diversified industrial company. West Fraser and Pollination have also published a TNFD methodology for the forestry sector, built on Earth Blox’s technology.

The Forum represents the UK in the Global Partnership for Business and Biodiversity, and is sending a delegation to the UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP17) in Yerevan later this month, with Earth Blox's Dr Genevieve Patenaude and Ben Matthews, Director of Nature & Climate, joining.
